What we haul
Sofas and chairs. Mattresses with the box spring and the frame. Replaced appliances. The garage or attic a household stopped using for anything but boxes. A parent's whole house. Bagged yard trimmings from a weekend in the yard. The services page carries each one's specifics: the room the piece sits in, the stairs between the room and the driveway, the garage door, and the width of a side gate when a path runs around the house.

A single piece and a whole garage share the work on the way out. Estate cleanout for a house handles the family's decisions on what stays and what goes, furniture removal handles one piece, and between them sit a mattress pickup for a bedroom in the back of the house, appliance removal for the dead unit after a kitchen or laundry swap, and yard waste removal for a stack of bagged trimmings beside the garage.
What is not on this list
Household hazardous waste, old televisions, remodel materials and trees are not on this list. Household hazardous waste is accepted free of charge at a S.A.F.E. Center, up to 15 gallons or 125 pounds per visit, with the address where the waste originated requested at drop off;1 the trip is the resident's. Building and remodel materials are not on this list either. Nonfunctioning cathode ray tubes and mercury bulbs from televisions, laptops, tablets and monitors count as hazardous waste in California's wording.2 Standing trees, stumps and long limbs are not on this list.
When you phone
A call opens on what the house holds and the way out: the room the piece is in, the doors it has to pass through, the stairs, the garage door, the driveway, and anything that must stay in place. If a weekend's yard pile sits beside the garage, that is part of the same picture. A rough count of the heavy pieces helps.
Los Angeles houses
Detached houses make up about 36 percent of the city's housing units,3 and the median home in the City of Los Angeles was built in 1965.4 The carry out moves through whatever the house has. The City runs its own route for single-family residents: an unlimited curbside bulky pickup at no additional charge,5 with five locations across the city open one Saturday a month as a free monthly drop-off.5 The City's bulky pickup, step by step covers the request itself.
How to check any hauler
Four questions sit on the first phone call for any hauler: what the company will take and what it will leave alone, how the price is set, what moves it up or down for the specific house, and where the items go after they leave the driveway. Questions to ask any hauler collects them, and the cost guide for a Los Angeles removal runs through what moves the number.
